ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode)

All Groups

Asynchronous Transfer Mode works by breaking data into fixed-sized cells which it can transmit throughout a network with the use of cell switching. This makes it suitable for a lot of things, uses bandwidth efficiently, and works well with many different types of applications. While widely deployed in the late 90s, ATM has since been replaced with cheaper and easier-to-manage technologies such as Ethernet.
